DIS Founder, Yannis Kyriakopoulos

Yannis Kyriakopoulos (1942-2008)

Yannis Kyriakopoulos, a personality with acumen and a profound influence in the field of IT, was remembered as much more than a successful businessman; he was a persuasive and fiery force, imbued with the human element with strong self-confidence and great strength of soul. His sagacity in the field of information technology, combined with his tenacity and strong opinions, made him not only a visionary but also a skilled negotiator.

His career evolved in 4 periods.

During the first period of his career (1965-1982), Mr. Kyriakopoulos served as a successful IT executive at the Skaramanga and Elefsina Shipyards, leaving an indelible mark, first as an executive in the IT Department and then as Head of Development and Director of IT. He later worked as IT Manager at L’OREAL from 1980-1982 where he demonstrated his flexibility.

The second period (1982-1999) marked him as one of the most innovative entrepreneurs in the country. Founding DIS in 1982, an IT company, he anticipated the business market need for off-the-shelf ERP systems and introduced ComPak/400, an innovative product on IBM’s AS/400 platform. His visionary approach led to the success of ComPak/WIN in 1997, launching DIS on the Athens Stock Exchange in 1998 with sales that reached 3.5 billion drachmas.

The third and most important period for him (2000-2005) was defined by his central role in major developments in industry. Merging DIS with COMPUTER LOGIC in 2000, he created LOGIC DIS, the largest IT group in Greece. With 1300 employees, 24 subsidiaries and 200 Business Partners, the impact of his leadership was undeniable.

In 2006, he re-founded DIS, building on strong alliances, including a strategic partnership with Microsoft. Within a few years, he re-established a pioneering, innovative and successful company. Sadly, he passed away suddenly in 2008. His son, Panagiotis Kyriakopoulos, is his successor. DIS is recognized and rewarded today as the leading business software company in the Cloud.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Yannis Kyriakopoulos played a key role in the wider business landscape, earning multiple accolades among the country’s top business leaders. By actively participating in business associations and serving on the boards of bodies such as SEV and SEPE, he cemented his legacy. His strategic partnerships with industry giants such as IBM, Oracle, SAP and Microsoft further underscore his status as one of the most influential business leaders in the IT industry. He will always be remembered, not only for his professional achievements, but for the indomitable spirit, vision and human touch that defined Yannis Kyriakopoulos’ enduring legacy.
